Indication
Monotherapy or add-on treatment for epilepsy and bipolar disorder.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: Start 25 mg daily, increase to 100-200 mg/day. Children: 0.6 mg/kg/day, max 400 mg.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Hepatic impairment
- Renal impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Use in pregnancy only if necessary; monitor levels. Caution in breastfeeding.
Key Drug Interactions
- Valproate increases lamotrigine levels
- Carbamazepine decreases lamotrigine levels
- Hormonal contraceptives may reduce efficacy
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to lamotrigine

- Rash
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Headache

- Monitor for rash and flu-like symptoms
- Do not abruptly discontinue
