Indication
Routine and immediate reversal of neuromuscular blockade induced by rocuronium or vecuronium.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 4 mg/kg for routine reversal, 16 mg/kg for immediate reversal. Children >7 years: 2 mg/kg.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 3 mins, Duration: variable based on dose.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
- Obese patients
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Caution in pregnancy; safety not established. Excretion in breast milk expected; caution advised.
Key Drug Interactions
- Toremifene
- Fusidic acid
- Hormonal contraceptives
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to sugammadex or excipients
- Severe renal impairment
Common side effects
- Cough
- Dysgeusia
- Airway complications
- Hypotension
Counselling Points
- Monitor for signs of hypersensitivity
- Ventilatory support may be needed post-administration
- Use additional contraception for 7 days after administration if on hormonal contraceptives
Serious warnings
- Risk of marked bradycardia
- Monitor for recurrence of neuromuscular blockade
- Not for use with depolarizing agents
