Indication
Management of mild to moderate pain, including dysmenorrhea and pain associated with inflammation.
Dosage (summary)
Children aged 2-7 years: 25 mg (2.5 ml) three times daily. Children aged 7-14 years: 50 mg (5 ml) three times daily. Adults: 500 mg initially, followed by 250 mg every 6 hours as needed.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset of action is typically within 1 hour, with a duration of effect lasting up to 6 hours.
Special Populations
- Elderly patients may require dose adjustment due to increased risk of adverse effects.
- Patients with renal impairment should use with caution and may require dose adjustment.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Mefenamic acid is contraindicated during the third trimester of pregnancy. Use during lactation should be avoided unless deemed essential by a healthcare provider.
Key Drug Interactions
- May enhance the effects of anticoagulants such as warfarin.
- Concurrent use with other NSAIDs may increase the risk of gastrointestinal adverse effects.
