    Indication

    Treatment of depressive episodes, cataplexy, and obsessive-compulsive syndromes.

    Dosage (summary)

    Adults: 25 mg 2-3 times daily, max 250 mg. Elderly: Start at 10 mg, max 50 mg. Children: Start at 25 mg, max 3 mg/kg or 100-200 mg.

    Special Populations

    • Elderly
    • Children (5 years and older)

    Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

    Not established for safety in pregnancy; contraindicated in breastfeeding.

    • MAO-inhibitors
    • SSRIs
    • CNS depressants
    • Anticholinergic agents

    Contraindications

    • Hypersensitivity to clomipramine
    • Recent myocardial infarction
    • Congenital long QT syndrome
    • Hypokalaemia

    • Drowsiness
    • Dizziness
    • Weight gain
    • Dry mouth

    Counselling Points

    • Avoid alcohol
    • Monitor for worsening depression
    • Do not drive until effects are known

    • Risk of suicide
