Indication

Dosage (summary)
Insert one ring vaginally, replace every 28 days.
Special Populations
- Paediatric population
- Post-menopausal women
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Limited safety data in pregnancy; benefits vs risks should be considered. Dapivirine is excreted in breast milk; low infant exposure expected.
Key Drug Interactions
- Vaginal miconazole
- Vaginal clotrimazole
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dapivirine or excipients
- Unknown or positive HIV status
Common side effects
- Urinary tract infection
- Vaginal discharge
- Vulvovaginal pruritus
- Vulvovaginitis
- Pelvic pain
Counselling Points
- Use consistently and replace every 28 days
- Check for HIV status regularly
- Use additional preventive measures during menses
Serious warnings
- Not always effective in preventing HIV-1 infection
- Risk of HIV resistance with undetected HIV-1 infection
