Indication

Fast relief of indigestion and heartburn; urinary alkaliniser.

Dosage (summary)

Adults: 5 ml or 1 sachet in water; max 2 doses every 2-3 hours, max 14 days.

Special Populations

  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Increased renal clearance of acidic medicines
  • Decreased renal clearance of basic medicines
  • Enhances lithium excretion

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity
  • Hypertension
  • Heart failure
  • Cirrhosis
  • Metabolic alkalosis
  • Hypocalcaemia
  • Hypochlorhydria

Common side effects

  • Flatulence
  • Stomach cramps
  • Abdominal distension

  • Do not exceed recommended dose
  • Consult a doctor if discomfort persists
  • Avoid use in sodium-restricted diets

Serious warnings

  • Use with care in renal insufficiency
  • May cause metabolic alkalosis
  • Excessive use may lead to sodium overloading
