Indication
Treatment of acute agitation in schizophrenic patients.
Dosage (summary)
10-20 mg IM, max 40 mg/day; doses of 10 mg may be given every 2 hours.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 30-60 mins, Duration: 2-5 hours
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended; teratogenicity shown in animals; unknown if excreted in breast milk.
Key Drug Interactions
- Class IA and III anti-arrhythmics
- CNS depressants
- QT prolonging drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ziprasidone
- QT interval prolongation
- Recent myocardial infarction
- Uncompensated heart failure

- Injection site pain
- Nausea
- Somnolence
- Dizziness

- Avoid driving until effects are known
- Monitor for QT prolongation
