Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established; may cause bone marrow suppression in neonates.

- Hypersensitivity to chloramphenicol
- Not for minor infections or prophylactically

- Itching
- Dermatitis

- May cause transient blurring of vision
- Do not drive or operate machinery until vision is clear

- Risk of aplastic anaemia
- Avoid prolonged use
