Indication
Treatment of mild to moderate essential hypertension.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 5 mg daily; Elderly: Start at 2.5 mg, may increase to 5 mg.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 2-6 hours, Duration: 24 hours

- Renal impairment
- Elderly
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation.

- Hypersensitivity
- Liver insufficiency
- Cardiogenic shock
- Untreated phaeochromocytoma
- Uncontrolled heart failure
- Bradycardia
- Bronchial asthma
Common side effects
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Tiredness
- Paraesthesia
Counselling Points
- Take at the same time daily
- Monitor for bradycardia
- Avoid abrupt discontinuation
Serious warnings
- May increase sensitivity to allergens
- Abrupt discontinuation may exacerbate angina
