Dosage (summary)

Subcutaneous injection once daily, individualized dosing.

Special Populations

  • Elderly
  • Children < 2 years
  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Can be used during pregnancy; insulin requirements may change. Adjustments may be needed during breastfeeding.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Oral antidiabetic agents
  • Corticosteroids
  • Beta-blockers

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to insulin glargine
  • Children < 2 years

Common side effects

  • Hypoglycaemia
  • Lipohypertrophy
  • Injection site reactions

  • Rotate injection sites
  • Monitor blood glucose regularly
  • Be aware of hypoglycaemia symptoms

Serious warnings

  • Risk of severe hypoglycaemia
  • Not for diabetic ketoacidosis
