Indication

Relief of mild to moderate pain and fever.

Dosage (summary)

Adults: 500 mg three times daily; Children 6 months to 2 years: 1 suppository three times daily.

Special Populations

  • Elderly
  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Contraindicated from 20 weeks of gestation; not recommended during breastfeeding.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Anticoagulants
  • Antihypertensives
  • Lithium

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to mefenamic acid
  • Active gastrointestinal ulcer
  • Heart failure
  • Pregnancy after 20 weeks

  • Dizziness

Counselling Points

  • Take with food to reduce gastric irritation
