Indication
Steroid responsive inflammation of the eye.
Dosage (summary)
1-2 drops into the conjunctival sac 2-4 times daily; may increase to 2 drops hourly for first 48 hours.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 2 hours, Duration: 30 mins in aqueous humour
Special Populations
- Caution in glaucoma
- Caution in extensive ocular surface disease
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established.
Key Drug Interactions
- CYP3A inhibitors may increase systemic side effects
Contraindications
- Acute purulent ocular infections
- Superficial herpes simplex
- Hypersensitivity to components
Common side effects
- Increased intraocular pressure
- Cataract
- Ocular irritation
- Blurred vision
Counselling Points
- Avoid contact lenses during use
- Monitor for visual disturbances
- Do not discontinue abruptly
Serious warnings
- Do not use for more than 10 days without supervision
- May mask infections
- Risk of corneal perforation
