Indication

Treatment of atrophic vaginitis due to oestrogen deficiency.

Dosage (summary)

Initial: 1 tablet daily for 2 weeks; Maintenance: 1 tablet twice a week.

Special Populations

  • Elderly
  • Women with intact uterus

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Contraindicated during pregnancy and lactation.

  • Anticonvulsants
  • Anti-infectives
  • St John's wort

Contraindications

  • Breast cancer history
  • Oestrogen-dependent tumors
  • Undiagnosed genital bleeding
  • DVT or PE history
  • Active liver disease

Common side effects

  • Vulvovaginal mycotic infection
  • Vulvovaginal pruritus
  • Breast pain
  • Peripheral oedema

Counselling Points

  • Perform monthly breast self-exams.
  • Report any unusual bleeding.
  • Avoid double dosing if a dose is missed.

Serious warnings

  • Increased risk of breast cancer with prolonged use
  • Risk of endometrial hyperplasia
  • Monitor for thromboembolic events
