Indication

Aid to smoking cessation in patients committed to stop smoking.

Dosage (summary)

1 mg twice daily after 1-week titration: 0.5 mg once daily (days 1-3), 0.5 mg twice daily (days 4-7), 1 mg twice daily (days 8-12).

Special Populations

  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Elderly

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Warfarin
  • Bupropion
  • Nicotine replacement therapy

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to varenicline or excipients

Common side effects

  • Nausea
  • Insomnia
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

  • Monitor for neuropsychiatric symptoms.
  • Avoid abrupt discontinuation.
