- Hypersensitivity to metformin
- Acute metabolic acidosis
- Renal failure

- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Abdominal pain
- Loss of appetite

- Take with food to improve tolerability
- Monitor blood glucose regularly
- Report any symptoms of lactic acidosis

- Risk of lactic acidosis
