Indication

Dosage (summary)
Starting dose: 18 mg once daily for children/adolescents; 18 or 36 mg for adults.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 1-2 hours, Duration: 12 hours

- Elderly
- Children under 6 years
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding.

- MAO inhibitors
- Alcohol
- Serotonergic medicines
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to methylphenidate
- Severe anxiety
- Glaucoma
- Phaeochromocytoma
- Severe cardiovascular disorders
Common side effects
- Insomnia
- Anorexia
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Hypertension
Counselling Points
- Take in the morning with liquid
- Do not chew or crush tablets
- Monitor for mood changes and cardiovascular symptoms
Serious warnings
- Risk of sudden death in patients with cardiac abnormalities
- Potential for abuse and dependence
- Emergence of psychiatric symptoms
