Indication

Dosage (summary)

Starting dose: 10 mg once daily; may increase to 25 mg if needed.

Special Populations

  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Increased risk of hypoglycaemia with insulin/sulphonylureas
  • May enhance diuretic effects

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to empagliflozin
  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Ketoacidosis
  • Moderate to severe renal impairment

Common side effects

  • Hypoglycaemia
  • Genital infections
  • Urinary tract infections

  • Monitor for signs of ketoacidosis
  • Stay hydrated
  • Report any genital or urinary symptoms

Serious warnings

  • Risk of diabetic ketoacidosis
  • Volume depletion
  • Fournier's gangrene
