Indication

Dosage (summary)
One intrauterine system (IUS) containing 52 mg of Levonorgestrel is inserted into the uterus by a healthcare professional. The device is effective for up to 5 years.

Special Populations
- Women with a history of ectopic pregnancy
- Women with uterine abnormalities
- Women with active pelvic infections
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not indicated for use during pregnancy. Can be used during lactation; minimal amounts of Levonorgestrel are excreted in breast milk.
Key Drug Interactions
- Anticonvulsants (e.g., phenytoin, carbamazepine) may reduce the effectiveness of Levonorgestrel.
- Rifampicin and other rifamycins may decrease the efficacy of the device.
