Indication
Anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive therapy, including COVID-19 treatment.
Dosage (summary)
0.5 to 20 mg daily; 6 mg IV once daily for COVID-19 up to 10 days.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Crosses placenta; may cause fetal adrenal suppression. Not recommended during breastfeeding.
Key Drug Interactions
- Liver enzyme inducers may reduce efficacy
- Potassium-depleting diuretics may cause hypokalaemia
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to dexamethasone
- Active tuberculosis
- Ocular herpes simplex
- Systemic infections

- Hypertension
- Gastrointestinal ulceration
- Osteoporosis
