Indication
Control of generalized tonic-clonic and complex partial seizures.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 300 mg daily, adjusted as needed; max 600 mg. Pediatric: 5 mg/kg/day, max 300 mg.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 7-10 days for steady state.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Avoid in pregnancy; teratogenic risk. Not recommended during breastfeeding.

- Nelfinavir
- Alcohol
- CYP450 inducers/inhibitors
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to phenytoin
- Porphyria

- Nystagmus
- Gingival hyperplasia
