Dosage (summary)

2 mg aflibercept (50 microliters) via intravitreal injection; initial monthly for 3 doses, then every 2 months.

Special Populations

  • Elderly
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Renal impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to aflibercept
  • Ocular infection
  • Active severe intraocular inflammation

Common side effects

  • Conjunctival haemorrhage
  • Eye pain
  • Cataract
  • Increased intraocular pressure
  • Vitreous detachment

Counselling Points

  • Report symptoms of endophthalmitis immediately
  • Avoid driving until vision is stable after injection

  • Risk of endophthalmitis
  • Increased intraocular pressure
  • Potential arterial thromboembolic events
