Indication
Preoperative antimuscarinic to reduce secretions and block vagal reflexes.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 0.004 mg/kg IM 30-60 mins pre-op; 0.1 mg IV intraop; 0.2 mg for neuromuscular blockade reversal.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 30 mins, Duration: 6-8 hours
Special Populations
- Renal impairment
- Prostatic hypertrophy
- Asthma
- Hypertension
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Preferably avoid in pregnancy; minimal effects expected in breastfeeding.

- MAOIs
- Tricyclic antidepressants
- Digoxin
- Ketoconazole
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity
- Angle-closure glaucoma
- Myasthenia gravis
- Paralytic ileus
Common side effects
- Drowsiness
- Visual disturbances
- Dry mouth
- Tachycardia
Counselling Points
- Avoid driving until recovered
- Report any severe allergic reactions
- Monitor for tachycardia
Serious warnings
- Caution in glaucoma, asthma, cardiac disorders
- May cause drowsiness
