Indication

Advanced hormone-dependent prostate carcinoma.

Dosage (summary)

Single dose every 12 weeks, subcutaneously.

Onset of Action / Duration

Onset: 2-3 weeks, Duration: up to 182 days.

Special Populations

  • Patients with vertebral or cerebral metastases
  • Diabetes mellitus

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Not indicated for use in females.

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to leuprorelin or GnRH analogues
  • Hormone-independent carcinomas

Common side effects

  • Urinary tract infections
  • Decreased libido
  • Hot flushes
  • Nausea
  • Erectile dysfunction

Counselling Points

  • Monitor PSA and testosterone levels
  • Inform about potential side effects
  • Advise on driving and machinery use due to fatigue

Serious warnings

  • Initial testosterone rise may exacerbate symptoms
  • Monitor for spinal cord compression
