Indication

Treatment of mild to moderately severe infections caused by susceptible bacteria.

Dosage (summary)

Adults: 500 mg every 24 hours for upper respiratory infections; 250-500 mg every 12 hours for others. Children: 7.5-20 mg/kg depending on infection.

Special Populations

  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Inhibits vitamin K synthesis
  • Nephrotoxicity with aminoglycosides

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins
  • Children under 1 year
  • Pregnancy and lactation

Common side effects

  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhoea
  • Dizziness
  • Eosinophilia
