Indication
Treatment and prophylaxis of infections due to susceptible organisms.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 1-2 g every 8 hours; max 3 g every 6 hours for severe infections.
Special Populations
- Renal impairment
- Children under 2 years
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established; excreted in breast milk.
Key Drug Interactions
- Probenecid increases serum levels
- Enhanced nephrotoxicity with loop diuretics
- Antagonism with bacteriostatic agents
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to cefoxitin or u03b2-lactam antibiotics
- Porphyria
