Indication

Temporary aid for smoking cessation.

Dosage (summary)

Use for 3 months, then gradually reduce to 1-2 gums/day.

Onset: 5-7 mins, Duration: 30 mins

Special Populations

  • Hepatic impairment
  • Renal impairment
  • Elderly

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Contraindicated in pregnancy; nicotine passes into breast milk.

  • May enhance effects of adenosine
  • Altered metabolism of certain drugs post-smoking cessation

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to nicotine
  • Post-myocardial infarction
  • Severe angina
  • Active TMJ disease
