Dosage (summary)

One 35 mg tablet orally, once a week.

  • Renal impairment
  • Elderly

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Key Drug Interactions

  • Polyvalent cations (calcium, magnesium, iron, aluminium)

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to risedronate
  • Hypocalcaemia
  • Advanced renal impairment (creatinine clearance < 30 ml/min)

Common side effects

  • Dyspepsia
  • Nausea
  • Abdominal pain
  • Musculoskeletal pain
  • Headache

Counselling Points

  • Take with a full glass of water
  • Remain upright for 30 minutes after taking
  • Avoid taking with food or drinks other than water

Serious warnings

  • Upper gastrointestinal disorders
  • Atypical femur fractures
  • Osteonecrosis of the jaw
