Indication

Dosage (summary)

Initial dose: 20 mg once daily, titrated to 60-120 mg/day.

Special Populations

  • Elderly
  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Prostatic hypertrophy
  • Paediatric population

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to risks of neonatal withdrawal syndrome.

Key Drug Interactions

  • CYP3A4 inhibitors/inducers
  • CNS depressants
  • MAO inhibitors
  • Opiate antagonists

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to methadone
  • Respiratory depression
  • Acute asthma attack
  • Acute alcoholism
  • Severe hepatic impairment

  • Nausea
  • Constipation
  • Fatigue
