Dosage (summary)

150 mg to 200 mg daily in 2 to 3 divided doses; max duration 8 weeks.

Special Populations

  • Elderly
  • Hepatic impairment
  • Renal impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding; crosses placental barrier.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Alcohol
  • CNS depressants

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to etifoxine
  • States of shock
  • Severe liver/renal impairment
  • Myasthenia gravis
  • Severe hepatitis
  • Severe dermatological reactions
  • Galactosaemia

Common side effects

  • Slight drowsiness
  • Lymphocytic colitis
  • Hepatitis
  • Skin reactions
  • Metrorrhagia

Counselling Points

  • Monitor for skin toxicity
  • Avoid alcohol
  • Caution with CNS depressants
