Indication
Advanced prostatic cancer requiring testosterone suppression.
Dosage (summary)
One implant (9.45 mg buserelin) subcutaneously every 3 months.

Onset: 2-4 weeks, Duration: 3 months
Special Populations
- Patients with hypertension
- Diabetic patients
- History of depression
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended; safety not established.
Key Drug Interactions
- Antidiabetic medicines
- QT prolonging drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to buserelin acetate
- Post-surgical testosterone suppression
Common side effects
- Loss of libido
- Hot flushes
- Dizziness
- Injection site pain
Counselling Points
- Monitor blood pressure and glucose levels
- Report any signs of depression
- Avoid driving if experiencing dizziness
Serious warnings
- Risk of osteoporosis
- Monitor for QT prolongation
- Adjunctive anti-androgen therapy recommended
