Indication
Mucolytic for non-infective secretions in respiratory conditions.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 1 tablet 2-3 times daily; Children 6-14 years: 1 tablet twice daily; Children 2-5 years: u00bd tablet 2-3 times daily.
Special Populations
- Asthmatic patients
- Children under 2 years
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not established for safety in pregnancy; caution advised during breastfeeding.
Key Drug Interactions
- Tetracycline antibiotics
- Antitussives
- Activated charcoal
- Nitroglycerin
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to N-acetylcysteine
- Children under 2 years
- Active peptic ulceration
Common side effects
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Hypotension
Counselling Points
- Dissolve tablet in water before use
- Monitor for skin reactions
- Avoid mixing with other medicines
Serious warnings
- Severe skin reactions possible
- Caution in peptic ulcer history
- Do not use continuously for more than 14 days
