Indication
Narcotic analgesic for induction and maintenance of anaesthesia.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 0.5-1.0 u03bcg/kg/min continuous infusion; initial bolus of 1 u03bcg/kg over 30 seconds.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 1-2 mins, Duration: 3-10 mins
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
- Obese patients
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established; crosses placenta and appears in breast milk.
Key Drug Interactions
- CNS depressants may increase adverse effects.
- Cardiac depressants may exacerbate hypotension and bradycardia.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to remifentanil or other fentanyl analogues.
- Epidural and intrathecal use.
- Use with nitrous oxide and oxygen alone at altitude.

- Respiratory depression
- Nausea
- Vomiting

- Monitor for respiratory depression.
- Avoid driving or operating machinery post-treatment.
