Indication

Dosage (summary)
The usual adult dosage is 400 mg once daily, administered orally or via infusion.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset of action typically occurs within 1 to 2 hours after administration, with peak plasma concentrations reached within 1 to 2 hours.
Special Populations
- Elderly patients
- Patients with renal impairment
- Patients with hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Moxifloxacin should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. It is not recommended during breastfeeding.
Key Drug Interactions
- Antacids containing magnesium or aluminum may reduce the absorption of Moxifloxacin.
- Warfarin may have increased anticoagulant effects when used with Moxifloxacin.
- Cationic agents (e.g., sucralfate, metal ions) may interfere with Moxifloxacin absorption.
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Moxifloxacin or other fluoroquinolones
- History of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use
- Patients with a history of myasthenia gravis

- Nausea
- Diarrhea
- Dizziness
- Headache
- Rash
- Tendon rupture
Counselling Points
- Take the medication as prescribed, at the same time each day.
- Avoid taking with dairy products or calcium-fortified juices.
- Report any signs of tendon pain or swelling immediately.
- Stay hydrated and maintain adequate fluid intake.
- Inform healthcare providers of any other medications being taken.
Serious warnings
- May cause QT interval prolongation; use with caution in patients with known cardiac conditions.
- Risk of Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
- Use with caution in patients with a history of seizures.
