Indication
Short-term treatment of insomnia.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 10 mg before bedtime; Elderly: 5 mg recommended.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 30 mins, Duration: up to 6 hours

- Elderly patients
- Hepatic impairment
- Paediatric patients
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended during pregnancy; contraindicated in breastfeeding.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to zolpidem
- Obstructive sleep apnoea
- Myasthenia gravis
- Severe hepatic insufficiency
- Acute respiratory depression
- Children under 18

- Somnolence
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Nausea
- Fatigue
Counselling Points
- Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants
- Use for short duration only
- Monitor for signs of dependence

- Risk of dependence and withdrawal symptoms

- Risk of next-day psychomotor impairment
