Indication

Treatment of HIV-1 infection in combination with other antiretroviral agents.

Dosage (summary)

The recommended dose for adults and children over 12 years is 300 mg once daily or 150 mg twice daily. For children aged 3 months to 12 years, the dose is based on body weight.

Onset of Action / Duration

Lamivudine has a rapid onset of action, with antiviral effects observed within a few days of initiation. However, the full therapeutic effect may take several weeks.

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Lamivudine is classified as Category B3 for pregnancy. It is generally considered safe to use during pregnancy, but should be used only if clearly needed. It is excreted in breast milk; breastfeeding is not recommended for HIV-infected mothers.
