Indication

Treatment of infections due to susceptible non-penicillinase producing strains.

Dosage (summary)

Adults: 250-500 mg every 8 hours; max 4.5 g/day.

Special Populations

  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Safe in pregnancy; caution in breastfeeding due to possible infant sensitization.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Probenecid
  • Allopurinol
  • Tetracyclines
  • Oral anticoagulants
  • Methotrexate

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin
  • History of severe hypersensitivity to beta-lactams
  • Infectious mononucleosis

Common side effects

  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Skin rash

  • Take with plenty of fluids
  • Monitor for allergic reactions
  • May affect oral contraceptive efficacy

Serious warnings

  • Serious hypersensitivity reactions
