Indication
Prevention of VTE in elective hip or knee replacement surgery and prevention of stroke in NVAF.
Dosage (summary)
2.5 mg twice daily for VTE prevention; 5 mg twice daily for NVAF.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 12-24 hours, Duration: 24 hours
Special Populations
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
- Elderly
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended during pregnancy; unknown if excreted in breast milk.
Key Drug Interactions
- Strong CYP3A4 and P-gp inhibitors
- Other anticoagulants
- NSAIDs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to apixaban
- Active bleeding
- Severe renal disease
- Severe hepatic impairment

- Anaemia
- Haemorrhage
- Contusion
- Epistaxis
- Haematoma

- Monitor for signs of bleeding
- Discontinue before surgery
