Indication

Treatment of infections caused by amoxicillin-resistant organisms.

Dosage (summary)

1 vial IV 1.2 g every 6-8 hours for severe infections.

Special Populations

  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

Safety in pregnancy not established; avoid breastfeeding.

Key Drug Interactions

  • Probenecid
  • Allopurinol
  • Anticoagulants

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to penicillins
  • History of jaundice with AUGMENTIN

Common side effects

  • Diarrhoea
  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Dizziness

Counselling Points

  • Take with food to reduce GI upset
  • Report any allergic reactions
  • Avoid alcohol during treatment

Serious warnings

  • Serious hypersensitivity reactions
  • Risk of superinfections
  • Monitor INR with anticoagulants
