Indication
Treatment of corneal ulceration and conjunctivitis caused by susceptible bacteria.
Dosage (summary)
Eye Drops: 2 drops every 15 mins for 6 hours on day 1, then hourly on day 2, every 4 hours from day 3-14. Eye Ointment: 1.25 cm every 1-2 hours for 2 days, then every 4 hours for 12 days.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Patients with extensive ocular surface disease
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding not established.
Key Drug Interactions
- Elevated theophylline levels
- Increased warfarin effect
- Interference with caffeine metabolism
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to ciprofloxacin
- Hypersensitivity to other quinolones
Common side effects
- Hypersensitivity
- Headache
- Dizziness
- Ocular discomfort
- Blurred vision
Counselling Points
- Do not wear contact lenses during treatment
- Discontinue at first sign of rash or hypersensitivity
- Regular ophthalmological examinations recommended
Serious warnings
- Serious hypersensitivity reactions
- Prolonged use may cause superinfection
- Risk of tendon inflammation and rupture
