Indication
Prophylaxis and treatment of tuberculosis.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 5-15 mg/kg (max 900 mg) once daily; Pediatrics: 10-20 mg/kg (max 300 mg) once daily.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Hepatic impairment
- Renal impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Use in pregnancy not established; avoid breastfeeding during treatment.
Key Drug Interactions
- Rifampicin
- Cycloserine
- Disulfiram
- Warfarin
- Paracetamol
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to isoniazid
- Alcoholism
- Severe renal failure
- Uncontrolled seizures

- Peripheral neuropathy
- Hepatitis
- Optic neuritis
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Counselling Points
- Take on an empty stomach
- Avoid alcohol
- Report signs of liver damage
- Supplement with pyridoxine if at risk of neuropathy

- Severe hepatitis risk
