Indication
Prevention and treatment of venous thromboembolism (VTE).
Dosage (summary)
10 mg once daily for VTE prevention; 15 mg twice daily for 3 weeks, then 20 mg once daily for DVT/PE treatment.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Contraindicated in pregnancy; use caution in breastfeeding.
Key Drug Interactions
- Strong CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole, ritonavir)
- Other anticoagulants
Contraindications
- Active bleeding
- Severe hepatic disease
- Hypersensitivity to rivaroxaban
Common side effects
- Bleeding
- Dizziness
- Anaemia
Counselling Points
- Monitor for signs of bleeding.
- Take with or without food.
- Do not double dose if missed.
Serious warnings
- Risk of thrombotic events upon premature discontinuation
- Spinal/epidural haematoma risk
