Indication

Dosage (summary)
Adults: 50-100 mg four times daily; prevention: 50-100 mg daily.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Contraindicated in late pregnancy and infants under one month; safety in early pregnancy not established.

- Oliguria

- Infants under one month
- Sensitivity to nitrofurantoin

- Anorexia
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Skin rashes
- Pulmonary reactions
Counselling Points
- Take with food to minimize gastric upset
- Report signs of peripheral neuropathy
- Urine may turn brown

- Limit therapy to 14 days
- Monitor pulmonary function in elderly
