Indication
Treatment of Gastro-oesophageal Reflux Disease (GORD) and prevention of NSAID-related ulcers.
Dosage (summary)
20 mg once daily for maintenance; 40 mg once daily for erosive reflux treatment.

Onset: 1 hour, Duration: 24 hours

- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Safety not established during pregnancy and lactation.
Key Drug Interactions
- Clopidogrel
- Warfarin
- Atazanavir
- Nelfinavir
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole
- Concomitant use with atazanavir or nelfinavir
Common side effects
- Headache
- Abdominal pain
- Diarrhoea
- Nausea
Counselling Points
- Take tablets whole; do not chew or crush.
- Monitor for gastrointestinal symptoms.
- Avoid alcohol and NSAIDs.
Serious warnings
- May mask gastric malignancy symptoms
- Increased risk of gastrointestinal infections
