    Dosage (summary)

    500 mg once daily with food; may increase to 2 x 500 mg for severe infections.

    • Renal impairment
    • Hepatic impairment

    Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

    Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established; excreted in breast milk.

    • Simvastatin
    • Rifabutin
    • Rifampicin

    Contraindications

    • Hypersensitivity to macrolides
    • Concomitant use with astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, terfenadine
    • Porphyria

    • Nausea
    • Vomiting
    • Diarrhoea
    • Headache
    • QT prolongation
