Indication
Treatment of acute and chronic schizophrenia and maintenance treatment of bipolar I disorder.
Dosage (summary)
25 mg IM every 2 weeks; may increase to 37.5 mg or 50 mg.
Onset of Action / Duration
Onset: 3 weeks, Duration: 4-6 weeks after injection.
Special Populations
- Elderly
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Use only if benefits outweigh risks; contraindicated in breastfeeding.

Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to risperidone
- Children under 18
- Severe renal impairment

- Insomnia
- Anxiety
- Headache
- Parkinsonism

- Monitor for hyperglycaemia
- Avoid dehydration
- Caution with driving or machinery
Serious warnings
- Increased mortality in elderly dementia patients
- Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome
- Tardive Dyskinesia
