    Dosage (summary)

    20 mg once daily for duodenal ulcer; 10-40 mg for reflux oesophagitis.

    Special Populations

    • Elderly
    • Hepatic impairment

    Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

    Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established; excreted in breast milk.

    Key Drug Interactions

    • Clopidogrel
    • Nelfinavir
    • Atazanavir
    • Digoxin

    Contraindications

    • Hypersensitivity to omeprazole
    • Concomitant use with St John's Wort

    Common side effects

    • Headache
    • Abdominal pain
    • Diarrhoea
    • Nausea
    • Constipation

    Counselling Points

    • Take in the morning with water
    • Do not chew or crush capsules
    • Monitor for signs of hypomagnesaemia

    Serious warnings

    • Risk of hypomagnesaemia
    • Increased risk of fractures
    • Acute interstitial nephritis
