Indication
Moderate to severe pain and second line treatment for severe Restless Legs Syndrome.
Dosage (summary)
Starting dose: 10 mg/5 mg every 12 hours for pain; 5 mg/2.5 mg every 12 hours for RLS.
Special Populations
- Elderly patients
- Hepatic impairment
- Renal impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended in pregnancy or breastfeeding; may cause withdrawal in newborns.

- CNS depressants
- MAOIs
- Warfarin
- SSRIs/SNRIs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity
- Severe respiratory depression
- Severe hepatic impairment
- Severe renal impairment
- History of opioid abuse

- Constipation
- Nausea
- Dizziness
- Somnolence
- Headache
Counselling Points
- Take whole, do not chew or crush.
- Monitor for signs of respiratory depression.
- Discuss treatment goals and tapering plan.
Serious warnings
- Risk of respiratory depression
- Potential for addiction and dependence
- Caution in patients with sleep apnoea
