Indication

Treatment of partial and generalized seizures in adults and children from 1 month.

Dosage (summary)

Adults: Start at 600 mg/day, maintenance 600-2400 mg/day. Elderly: Adjust for renal function. Children: 8-10 mg/kg/day.

Special Populations

  • Elderly
  • Renal impairment
  • Hepatic impairment

Pregnancy & Breastfeeding

May cause serious birth defects; breastfeeding not recommended.

  • Hormonal contraceptives
  • CYP2C19 substrates
  • Enzyme-inducing antiepileptics

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to oxcarbazepine

  • Somnolence
  • Dizziness
  • Diplopia
