Indication
Treatment and prophylaxis of herpes simplex and varicella zoster infections in immunocompromised patients.
Dosage (summary)
5 mg/kg every 8 hours for herpes simplex; 10 mg/kg every 8 hours for varicella zoster.
Special Populations

- Renal impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Safety in pregnancy and lactation not established; avoid breastfeeding during treatment.

- Probenecid
- Cimetidine
- Ciclosporin
- Tacrolimus
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to acyclovir or valaciclovir

- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Rashes
- Phlebitis
- Increased blood urea

- Administer by slow infusion

- Risk of neurological side effects in renal impairment
