Indication
Treatment of mild to moderately severe infections caused by sensitive organisms.
Dosage (summary)
Adults: 750 mg to 3 g daily in divided doses. Max: 6 g/day. Children: 20-50 mg/kg/day.
Special Populations
- Renal impairment
- Hepatic impairment
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Safety in pregnancy not established; avoid breastfeeding.
Key Drug Interactions
- May reduce efficacy of oral contraceptives
- Increased rash risk with allopurinol
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to penicillins or cephalosporins
Common side effects
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Diarrhoea
- Skin rashes
- Headache

- Take with food to reduce GI effects
- Monitor for allergic reactions
- Avoid if infectious mononucleosis suspected

- Serious hypersensitivity reactions
